Educational and pastoral assistance to prisoners based on Aaron Antonovsky’s salutogenic theory

Abstract

The paper deals with a new method of assistance for prisoners based on the salutogenetic concept of Aaron Antonovsky. Specific components of the author of the sense of coherence theory proposal were analyzed in order to find their application in the generally accepted social rehabilitation, with particular emphasis on the role of the priest’s pastoral care and educational work. The research focused on identifying the goals of prisoner ministry, the specifics of the environment of seclusion and the concept of salutogenesis. Based on the results obtained, new remedial strategies were proposed.
