Online First Policy

The editors of “Seminare” have adopted the Online First policy. This allows publication on the journal’s website of articles that have already undergone review, editing and language correction. Such a publishing policy is increasingly being used by many scientific journals and it is commonly referred to as publish ahead of print, publish before print or continuous publishing.

Benefits: Online First provides benefits to both authors and readers of online journals. Authors benefit from reduced lead times between submission and publication as it means earlier appearance of their publications in current scientific debates and increases their citation rates, while readers get faster access to the latest publications.

Citation: Any article published according to the Online First policy can be cited using the date the manuscript was first published online and a DOI (Digital Object Identifier). DOI identifiers provide a permanent way to identify manuscripts published online, even after they have been assigned to a volume and issue of a print edition. Information such as volume or issue numbers and page numbers is not allocated to Online First articles as it is not known until the publishing process is complete, therefore Online First manuscripts should be cited as follows:

  • Kudlak, Grzegorz. 2021. “Hierarchy of Values of Juvenile Offenders and Its Possible Relationship with Criminal Behaviours.” Pre-publication date: 12.09.2021, DOI: http://doi.org/10.21852/sem.2021.3.08.
  • Once the article is assigned to a specific volume and issue, it can be cited in the usual way, with the volume and issue number and page numbers, keeping the DOI unchanged: Kudlak, Grzegorz. 2021. “Hierarchy of Values of Juvenile Offenders and Its Possible Relationship with Criminal Behaviours.” Seminare 42(3): 107-125. DOI: http://doi.org/10.21852/sem.2021.3.08.
  • Each DOI is registered with CrossRef, allowing permanent identification of an article at any stage of its publication. Such a solution also gives publishers the opportunity to link DOIs to articles, regardless of which volume and issue of the journal they are assigned to.

Assigning a manuscript to a specific volume and issue: Once an Online First article is assigned to a specific volume and issue and provided with full bibliographic data, such as volume and issue number, year of publication, and page numbers, the article (with its DOI unchanged) is transferred from the Online First tab to the tab of the specific journal issue.
