About

The idea of creating a journal that would stimulate the development of research in the field of matrimonial law appeared - at the end of the eighties of the last century - in the intention of Rev. Prof. Wojciech Góralski, then Chair of the Department of the Matrimonial and Family Church Law at the Faculty of Canon and Secular Law of the Catholic University of Lublin.

This initiative found its fruition in 1990, when the first volume of the new journal was published, containing eight dissertations and articles by the founder. His publications alone also filled the second volume, while subsequent volumes contained articles  by other authors. All these volumes were of a non-institutional character and were published at the editor's own expense.

When in 1996 the Editor started his scientific and teaching activity at the Faculty of Canon Law at the Academy of Catholic Theology in Warsaw (since 1999 at Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw), "Ius Matrimoniale" acquired an institutional character, becoming formally the journal of that Faculty. The next volume was published in the aforementioned year - as the first one, with a mark next to it, to maintain continuity: 6-7 (1995-1996) - in a new graphic artwork. From then on, it was published every year, retaining this double numbering, until 2013. Since 2014, the journal has become a quarterly.

As a result of changes related to the evaluation of journals, in order to ensure a higher substantive level of the journal, not multiplying the number of articles at the expense of their quality, and thus prepare the journal to apply to the ministerial list and to the reference databases, starting from 2020, the journal has changed its frequency of publication, becoming a semi-annual.

The journal "Ius Matrimoniale" covers the issues of the canonical matrimonial law (both substantive and procedural) as well as family and guardianship law. It is addressed especially to the employees of ecclesiastical courts, practitioners of ecclesiastical matrimonial and family law and students. Due to its unique formula, it is an extremely useful source of theoretical and practical knowledge.
