Abstract

This article presents the results of phenomenographic research, the subject of which are expectations teachers of Polish have towards younger student starting the second stage of education (grades 4-8). The aim of the study was to establish the image of the student adopted by the respondents, which is part of their individual teaching theories. This image translates into teaching practice that can condition the functioning of fourth grade students who started their education at the age of six. The presented research results indicate that the image of a 4th grade student - regardless of their age - is made up of deficiencies that will be supplemented by teachers. The research results also reveal that lowering the 4th grade age increases the tendency of perceiving the student through the prism of his imperfections.
