Shopaholism (oniomania) in relation to an inability to express valid consent

Abstract

The aim of the article is to present the issue of shopaholism in relation to the inability to express valid marriage consent. The first part attempted to define and de- scribe the phenomenon of compulsive buying. The second part describes compulsively buyers and the effects of this addiction, while the third part is devoted to the problem of shopaholism in relation to the person’s ability to undertake essential marital duties. It should be concluded that a person affected by severe shopaholism is unable to enter into a canonically valid marriage.
